Celebrating Volunteers’ Week

This week is Volunteers’ Week and the Barratt Foundation are proud to say from March 2023 to March 2024, Barratt employees have increased their volunteering by 75%!

From the year to March 2023 Barratt employees delivered 911 days of volunteering. This compares to March 2024 when they delivered 1,598 days of volunteering – an impressive 75% growth, or an extra 687 days.

All Barratt employees are entitled to two days of paid leave a year of volunteering, to support their favourite charities and good causes with their time. This can be used for activities such as litter picking, painting and decorating, fundraising, or helping a charity with its core purpose – e.g. helping children to read or supporting nature.

The new figures help celebrate Volunteers’ Week, which started on Monday 3 June, highlighting the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. The week is a chance to showcase and thank the UK’s volunteers for all they contribute to local communities, the voluntary sector, and society.

Increasing volunteering across Barratt Developments has been an important goal of the Barratt Foundation since it was established in 2021. The Foundation’s aim is to bring a long term strategy to support charities across the UK and for us to leave a powerful legacy in the communities in which it operates. Since it was set up volunteering across the organisation has seen a large increase.

David Thomas, Chief Executive of Barratt Developments PLC said: “We are proud to see such a positive change in the uptake of our volunteering days, which is a credit to everyone in the business wanting to help a wide range of local and national causes that mean something to them. By increasing the number of days that employees can take from one to two has helped to drive this uptake in volunteering, and we look forward to supporting many more charities and community groups in the future.”
