£50,000 donation towards the British Red Cross for vital aid on the ground following the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey

The Barratt Foundation has made a £50,000 donation towards the British Red Cross as it provides vital aid on the ground following the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey. The appeal is led by The Sun on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which brings together 15 leading aid charities, including the British Red Cross, to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas.

Speaking about the donation, David Thomas, Chief Executive of Barratt Developments PLC, said: “We’ve all been affected by the distressing news from Turkey and Syria, we welcome this appeal and are happy our Foundation can support the vital work the Red Cross is doing to ease suffering and help families.”

It is currently estimated that over 9000 people have been killed as hundreds of buildings collapsed, and many thousands more have been injured and displaced – with the figures expected to rise significantly.

This important funding from The Barratt Foundation will provide:

  • Financial support to families to buy essential items like food and blankets
  • Emergency tents for families who have lost their homes
  • Electric heaters to keep people warm
